Converting to Orthodox Judaism in 1992, Leah’s biggest existential question was “What is there to eat?” Kosher options were limited in Seattle. For fun, she started doing theme meals as fundraisers for Chabad. “French Night” and “Thai Night” benefited from the culinary skills of other members of the community. Successful social events, they also raised money.
Trained at Parson’s School of Design, Leah was soon balancing her freelance outerwear design career with dabbling in catering. Mostly as favors to friends, a bris here a bar mitzvah there soon became more and more simchot for the community(…)
